Shannon Cormier, Ph.D.,

Dr. Shannon Cormier, a native Houstonian and an entrepreneurial and economic development specialist, earned her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Texas at Austin. Her research concentration focuses upon the development of micro-enterprise in minority communities and the socioeconomic transformation of underprivileged emerging markets through the wealth-creating activity of business enterprise. Her dissertation, Business Incubation in Inner City Emerging Markets as an Economic Development Tool, was composed through traveling throughout the United States and observing and assessing the best practices of successful business incubators in impoverished areas.

Dr. Cormier has gained practical entrepreneurial experience through two micro-enterprises of her own including a desktop publishing company and a consulting firm that produced corporate fundraisers and offered event planning services for non-profit organizations. She is an experienced conference planner, and through her corporate fundraising expertise, Dr. Cormier has succeeded in raising monies that have sustained sponsoring organizations’ operating budgets and that have allowed them to increase their staffing and services. Dr. Cormier’s educational research and her experience in the corporate and conference event-planning arena, coupled with her expertise in corporate fundraising make her a key asset to the Texas Black Expo. Dr. Cormier is also a senior consultant with HBE Consulting & Marketing Associates. She is an avid reader, loves to travel, and is fully dedicated to kingdom ministry through her church Dana Carson Ministries / The ROCK World Outreach International.
